CHICAGO (AP) — Days earlier than heading to her fourth World Cup, Megan Rapinoe introduced Saturday she’ll retire on the finish of the Nationwide Girls’s Soccer League season.

Rapinoe, 38, made the announcement on Twitter, saying she “by no means may have imagined the methods by which soccer would form & change my life without end.”

“It’s with a deep sense of peace & gratitude that I’ve determined this might be my last season taking part in this lovely sport,” the Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Cup champion stated.

The U.S. group is aiming for a 3rd consecutive title when the Girls’s World Cup kicks off on July 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
